Some years are easier than others to come up with new ideas. This was one of those years. :) Money is tight for us right now too (because it's not long after Christmas) but I've tried to pinch pennies the last few weeks and combined with the great bargins I got it went really far.

Last year money was really tight and I spent most of it on the office decorations. They pack the biggest punch as he gets so much attention. I also created a pyramid of Pepsi for him covering half of his desk last year using all different sizes of cans and bottles. He had pepsi for a long time! LOL Then I added a lot of junk food and it didn't cost me too much, yet he really enjoyed it. We don't keep those things around the house, so it was a treat for him.

He doesn't really reciprocate. Sometimes he gets creative, but not usually. However, when he does it usually starts with an awesome poem. One year the poem was at Christmas and it led me to other parts of the poem which led me to the gift, tickets to Les Mis. I got another poem this Christmas which I loved dearly - and to be honest I think those mean more to me than almost anything else. Another birthday I really loved was when I was pregnant with our daughter and on bedrest. All I wanted was flowers. Ususally he would have gotten me something else, figuring I wasn't serious and what kind of gift is that. But that year he got me two dozen roses and it was awesome.

So - it's a mixed lot. I've had years that are great, and years where he's totally dropped the ball. He's certainly not into it like I am, but that's ok. At least most of the time I say that! LOL

Ok, I have two comments. First - that is totally amazing. I have done big birthdays but nothing like that. And I got so burnt out trying to outdo myself all the time, I finally just stopped. Our money is always all jacked by the time his birthday rolls around so he's lucky to even get a cake. Your guy is very very lucky.

Two - does he reciprocate? If not, do you feel awful about it? If so - man, you are like the ideal couple! LOL
