McDonalds vs Starbucks? What are they thinking - EW!

posted in news |

Can you believe that McDonald’s is going to try to compete with Starbucks? It’s true! They are going to be installing coffee bars at 14,000 locations, and will be serving various espresso drinks. All I have to say is, disgusting!

Maybe I’m a coffee snob (it really is possible) but I would not remotely even consider heading to McDonald’s with a group of my girlfriends for our weekly coffee “dates”. Part of the enjoyment of this time is the ambiance, and screaming kids coupled with the smell of frying grease does not create the kind that I perceive the average Starbucks customer to be seeking.

Now, in my defense, I did try the iced coffee’s that McDonald’s rolled out last summer. Gag me, they were terrible! I had several friends who also tried them, and thought the same thing. Of course, we are all big fans of Starbucks-like coffee shops, so maybe that is the problem. I supposed if you regularly drink McDonalds coffee it might have been a refreshing treat. But most of us all agreed, it was terrible!

So - why expand upon the idea? And, even if they had to dabble in espresso, why do it trying to imitate a coffee bar? I do admit if I were in a pinch for some caffeine and I knew I could get an espresso drink while driving through McDonald’s with the kids I might try it. But that’s not the route they are taking.

I guess we’ll see. If anyone here gets one of these new McDonald’s Coffee bars, you’ll have to let me know what you think. I’m very curious!

you are disgusting..and judgemental. open ur mind a bit, wont ya? McD’s coffee does taste better, but starbucks has the brand and enviornment. Well, which one is better? its up to the consumers…and we can tell this w/ time.

Wow - seems I touched a nerve! I’ve never been called disgusting and judgemental before, let alone by a stranger online. ;) I was actually trying to be thought-provoking and opinionated, I guess I missed the mark.

You’re right on one account though, only time can tell how things will work out. Since I have no Starbucks out here in the cornfields, but I do have a McDonalds I’d be happy if it actually does turn out to be good. I’m just not holding my breath. ;) And as I said before, I probably am a coffee snob. LOL

I would never opt for McD’s over Starbucks for so many reasons. Where do I even start? For one, Starbucks pays a fair wage, they give their employees benefits, they give back to the environment, they support artists in a way that is new and refreshing and long overdue in the world of entertainment, they offer their grinds up for local recycling, they offer healthy fresh fruits and produce, they utilize local bakeries. And then…..we have McD’s. And they pretty much do the exact opposite of all of the above. I don’t care if McD’s invents a drug to cure cancer - they aren’t getting my money.

And for the record, we did visit the mcd’s headquarters last summer and tried some of these new coffee drinks and they sucked ass. And I’m not even a coffee snob! LOL
